Where do these pets live?
On Ethereum, fully. The art, the traits, even the metadata all come straight from the contract, so there's no server behind this that can die and take your pet with it. Those PNGs on marketplaces? Just photos. The pet itself is code.
Who are its parents?
Every pet comes from its Pebble. When you adopt, the contract reads your Pebble's hash and passes it down, so pet #n literally shares DNA with Pebbles #n by Zeblocks. Don't take my word for it, check the family resemblance on the trait check page. Everything's CC0, with love to Zeblocks and 6529.
How does adoption work?
Free for Pebble holders while the holder phase lasts, then 0.01 ETH per pet once public adoption opens. If you hold a Pebble, its pet waits just for you during the holder phase. After that I open the public phase (which I can never undo, the contract won't let me) and unclaimed pets can go home with anyone, up to 10 at a time. And yes, adoption is forever. No takebacks at the rockery.
Can I choose my pet's colour?
Yep, and you can keep changing it. Any colour from your Pebble's palette, or leave it on auto and let the hash pick. Swap it whenever you like on Your pets and the metadata updates by itself. One vault caveat: colour changes come from the wallet that holds the pet, so a vault pet changes colour by a vault transaction. Pick wisely when you adopt, or let the vault sign one later. I can pause colour changes for everyone if I ever need to, but whatever you've picked keeps rendering.
My Pebbles live in a cold, dark vault. Can I still adopt?
Of course, that's what vaults are for. The claim reads NFTDelegation.com, the same registry NextGen uses, so connect your minting wallet and your vault's pets will show up and mint straight into the vault. If you've delegated before for Memes or NextGen, you're already set. Just pick each pet's colour before you adopt. Once it's home in the vault, only the vault can recolour it (one small transaction, Etherscan works fine).
Do I need to feed it?
No food, no walks, no gas unless you're changing its colour. It just sits there, onchain, forever. And it's CC0, so print it, remix it, tattoo it. It won't mind. It's a pebble.
